The Scroll: This is the defining, flowing structure of the design. It's based on a volute—a spiral, scroll-like ornament. It provides the graceful, rhythmic backbone of the border.

The Leaf (or Acanthus): Traditionally, this motif is inspired by the Acanthus leaf, a Mediterranean plant known for its deeply cut, dramatic, and elegant leaves. The leaves emanate from, wrap around, and fill the spaces created by the scrolls.
